This is lovely and well written piece about a certain set of people, but I have to tell you, telling my father anything at all about the truth of my experience would have been absolutely the most counterproductive self care decision I could have made. He would have experienced it like it was all about him and I would, once again, have ended up taking care of him.

So I think a lot of the choices we make in not sharing these things with the men around us is because no one is better aware than we are in knowing who will end up paying for it in the end. Again.
