You seem to premise this on the notion that a “post-shame” world is desirable. It is not. There are things human beings should be ashamed of and not being able to make a distinction is a dangerous and regressive thing. Social media has dulled some since of propriety that makes life a little sadder and shallower for it; you can’t get it back if humans forget how to be ashamed of themselves for really coarse, disrespectful behavior.

A world full of dull people like Donald Trump trying to find meaning by ever deepening grossness, because they can’t actually “feel.” People who perpetually stir shit in the external world because that’s the only thing that validates their existence. That what shame-free — shamelessness — gets you.

Beyond the obvious desire for clicks, I’m not sure what your point in writing this is and I’m not really sure what it has to do with Mitt Romney’s rather silly, banal Twitter account.

But yes, there are things to be ashamed of. Knowing that is what deepens character and makes you an interesting, compelling person. Let alone writer.
